Xellar Secures $50 Million to Scale Human-Relevant Bio Intelligence

Moving beyond the limitations of animal testing, Boston-based Xellar Biosystems has closed $50 million in Series A and A+ funding to build a predictive biological infrastructure. The company plans to integrate organ-on-chip systems with AI-driven modeling to solve the industry-wide bottleneck of insufficient high-quality human biological data.

The capital injection will accelerate the development of a closed-loop platform that combines laboratory automation, high-content imaging, and multi-omics analysis. By shifting from traditional in vitro assays to dynamic, high-dimensional 3D models, Xellar aims to generate the foundational datasets required for virtual cell technologies. This approach allows researchers to simulate disease progression and therapeutic responses in a way that traditional preclinical models cannot replicate.

Founder and CEO Xin Xie argues that AI alone is insufficient for drug discovery without a robust engine for generating human data at scale. The company’s strategy centers on creating a 'flywheel' where automated wet-lab experiments feed computational intelligence, transforming biology into a system that can be systematically predicted rather than merely observed. Xellar will utilize the new funding to bolster its computational biology teams and scale its biological data generation capabilities, moving the industry toward a more predictive model of pharmaceutical development.
