The proposed facility at High Coast Innovation Park will process biogas captured from ongoing industrial operations. This liquefied biogas, or LBG, targets the heavy transport sector—specifically trucking and shipping—where electrification remains technically difficult. Beyond environmental gains, the project is framed as a strategic security measure. By producing fuel locally, the biorefinery intends to insulate the regional transport network from the volatility of imported energy supplies.
Adven, which specializes in industrial energy infrastructure, has collaborated on the development and design phase and is slated to continue its involvement through construction. The project’s timeline is contingent on two major hurdles: securing a grant from the national Klimatklivet climate investment program and navigating the regulatory permitting process. CEO Björn Vedin emphasized that close cooperation with local and county authorities is necessary to maintain the target commissioning date of Q4 2028. If approved, the plant will serve as a permanent fixture for fossil-free fuel production, potentially extending its reach to support public service vehicle fleets.
