Tyronn Lue Revives Neighborhood Hub with O.G.’s Barbershop in Mexico

A steady rhythm of clippers once defined the Garfield neighborhood, a legacy Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue intends to restore this Friday. As part of his annual Community Day, the Mexico, Missouri native will unveil O.G.’s, a new barbershop built to replace a long-shuttered local gathering spot.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Garfield Legacy Center campus serves as the centerpiece for Lue’s long-standing tradition of Fourth of July festivities, which feature fireworks and youth programming for area residents. This opening marks a tangible step in the Commitment to Community (C2C) initiative, a multi-million-dollar revitalization project Lue launched in 2025 to transform vacant infrastructure into hubs for economic growth.

O.G.’s draws inspiration from Rough’s, a historic barbershop that closed six years ago and functioned as an essential intergenerational space. Beyond basic grooming services, the new facility is designed to provide professional development, offering hands-on training, apprenticeships, and formal certification pathways in cosmetology. For Lue, the project is a deeply personal investment in his hometown, aiming to foster the same sense of mentorship and connection he experienced as a youth in the neighborhood.
