Ottawa Approves Springpole Gold Project Environmental Assessment

Federal Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, Julie Aviva Dabrusin, issued the decision statement after years of consultation with Indigenous communities, federal agencies, and public stakeholders. The approval marks a significant milestone for the Vancouver-based company, which views the site as a cornerstone for future economic growth in Northwestern Ontario.

CEO Dan Wilton described the move as a validation of the project's potential to generate billions in government revenue and create hundreds of local jobs. The company is now shifting its focus toward post-assessment engineering designs and site optimizations. Compliance remains central to the next phase, as the federal decision includes a series of conditions regarding aquatic protection, terrestrial monitoring, and ongoing Indigenous consultation that First Mining must maintain throughout the project’s lifecycle.
