The regional team, supported by Donor Network West, outperformed 42 other squads across 20 distinct athletic and recreational events. Their final haul of 126 medals included 56 gold, 47 silver, and 23 bronze, clinching the top honor for the highest medal count per participant. The delegation consisted of organ transplant recipients, living donors, and advocates from across the Northern California and Nevada region.
Janice Whaley, president and CEO of Donor Network West, noted that the competition serves as a vital platform to honor donors and celebrate the lives of recipients. Among the standout performances, swimmer Miya French claimed nearly 20 medals, underscoring her personal journey of post-transplant health. Team captain Matt De Fina emphasized that these victories demonstrate the long-term impact of donation, proving that recipients can return to high-level athletic competition. Donor Network West continues to fund and organize the team to promote awareness for organ recovery across the 45 counties they serve.
