Wesco International Posts Record Sales Driven by Data Center Demand

Wesco International reported record net sales of $6.7 billion for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 13% increase year-over-year. The Pittsburgh-based distributor saw its business momentum accelerate as a surge in data center investments fueled a 45% jump in that segment and pushed the company’s total backlog to record levels.

Chairman and CEO John Engel attributed the performance to the company’s ongoing cross-selling strategy and a diversified portfolio that continues to outperform the market. The firm’s data center business remains a primary growth engine, underscored by a new multi-year Grid Services award from a major hyperscale customer. This deal expands Wesco’s reach into power solutions, complementing its existing infrastructure and cooling service offerings.

Financial results for the quarter included an adjusted diluted earnings per share of $4.57, a 35% improvement over the same period last year. Operating margins also saw gains, rising 20 basis points to 5.7%. Despite these headline figures, operating cash flow for the quarter dipped to $54 million due to timing differences in accounts receivable and increased supplier prepayments. Looking ahead, management signaled confidence in sustained demand for the remainder of 2026, leading the company to raise its full-year outlook as it continues to execute on major infrastructure projects across its utility, communications, and electrical markets.
