The women reported that the singer consumed alcohol and handled a substance they identified as crystal meth, while the room itself was in a state of severe disarray, littered with clothing and burned tinfoil.

The tension escalated when a dispute over payment emerged. When the women refused to accept a gold Rolex as compensation, Payne allegedly smashed the watch against a wall and punched his television in an outburst of frustration. Despite the hostility, the women described moments of lucidity, noting that Payne spoke about his seven-year-old son, Bear, and even knelt to apologize for his behavior before they departed for the final time shortly before 4 p.m.

Following their exit, surveillance footage and witness reports depict a rapid decline in the singer's condition. Hotel staff observed him in an increasingly distressed state, leading to a frantic call to emergency services at 4:54 p.m. by receptionist Esteban Grassi, who voiced concerns regarding Payne’s safety and access to the room’s balcony. Just 13 minutes later, at 5:07 p.m., the singer fell to his death. Toxicology reports subsequently confirmed the presence of cocaine, alcohol, and the sedative Klonopin, suggesting that Payne was likely in a state of unconsciousness at the time of the incident.
