Phil Collins Recalls Near-Death Experience During 2024 Organ Failure

“My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye,” Phil Collins said, reflecting on a harrowing 2024 health crisis that left him on life support. The Genesis legend spent seven months in a Swiss hospital after a relapse, forcing his five children to prepare for the end.

The musician, who retired from touring in 2022 following years of spinal and mobility issues, faced a total systemic collapse linked to alcohol addiction. While he remained largely unconscious during the most critical period, his inner circle confronted the reality of his potential passing. The recovery process was slow, requiring a live-in nurse at his home in Switzerland, yet the singer reports he has remained sober since the incident.

Beyond his physical recuperation, Collins has focused on mending personal bonds. He recently celebrated a reconciliation with his daughter, actress Lily Collins, after years of distance following his divorce from her mother. The two spent the recent New Year holiday together in London, marking a significant shift from the strained dynamic documented in Lily’s 2017 memoir.

Despite his health hurdles, the 75-year-old is considering a creative resurgence. While he previously announced his retirement, he has begun revisiting unfinished musical projects in his home studio and has not ruled out future performances. His career will be further honored this November when he is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his solo work, marking his second inclusion in the institution.
