WAEPA Reopens $100,000 Guaranteed Life Insurance for Younger Feds

Current and former Civilian Federal Employees under age 40 have until October 2 to secure $100,000 in Group Term Life Insurance without undergoing medical underwriting. This limited-time window bypasses standard health screenings, offering a streamlined path to coverage for those navigating career transitions or recent workforce changes.

The offer, administered by the nonprofit Worldwide Assurance for Employees of Public Agencies, requires no blood tests or exams for applicants who meet specific criteria. To qualify, individuals must be 39 or younger, U.S. citizens, and new to the WAEPA membership pool. The policy is strictly limited to a $100,000 benefit amount, with premiums starting at $3.50 per month.

Unlike standard employer-sponsored plans, this coverage is fully portable, remaining with the policyholder regardless of future career moves, retirement, or departure from government service. CEO M. Shane Canfield noted that the program aims to provide financial stability for younger professionals who may have missed initial enrollment opportunities during their first year of federal employment. While the guaranteed-issue window closes on October 2, 2026, WAEPA continues to provide up to $1.5 million in standard coverage for employees of all ages through its regular application process, which often features expedited approval.
