Vincent Pastore to be Laid to Rest in New Rochelle

Family and friends will gather in New Rochelle, New York, later this week to bury Vincent Pastore, the veteran actor known for his iconic role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos. Pastore, 80, was discovered dead in his Bronx apartment on Saturday after a neighbor noticed he had been unreachable.

The choice of New Rochelle carries deep personal significance for the actor, who spent much of his youth there. While born in the Bronx, Pastore often spoke of his upbringing in the Westchester County city, where his family resided above the local Foresters club. Longtime friend Stephen Villano described the actor as a grounded figure who maintained a simple life despite his success, famously continuing to drive a Buick long after achieving fame.

Beyond his screen credits, which included roles in Goodfellas and Gotti, Pastore developed a dedicated following as a mentor to aspiring performers. He frequently shared his own unconventional path to Hollywood—which began in his later years following a chance meeting with actor Kevin Dillon—to encourage those struggling with the industry's steep odds. Though frequently cast as a mobster, Pastore maintained that his performances were grounded in his own personality rather than his upbringing in a traditional Italian-American neighborhood. He leaves behind a legacy defined not only by his portrayal of the conflicted informant in The Sopranos but by his commitment to the community and the young actors he helped guide.
