McDonald's Appoints New U.S. President Amid Modest Quarterly Growth

McDonald's Corporation reported a 1.3% rise in global comparable sales for the second quarter of 2026, a figure that highlights cooling momentum across its major markets. Alongside the financial results, the company tapped executive Skye Anderson to lead its U.S. division, signaling a push to revitalize performance in its largest territory.

The fast-food giant generated $37 billion in systemwide sales for the quarter, reflecting a 5% increase. Despite this growth, comparable sales in the U.S. grew by only 0.8%, trailing behind international operated markets, which saw a 1.5% rise, and developmental licensed markets, which led with 1.9% growth. CEO Chris Kempczinski noted that while the current playbook holds up globally, the U.S. market requires a more urgent focus to improve execution.

Financial results for the period ending June 30, 2026, show consolidated revenues rose 4% to $7.099 billion, with diluted earnings per share reaching $3.32. These figures include restructuring charges linked to the company's internal modernization initiative, "Accelerating the Organization." Excluding these charges, the company saw a 6% increase in earnings per share. Meanwhile, the loyalty program continues to be a primary driver of digital engagement, with 90-day active users climbing 13% to nearly 220 million, contributing to $40 billion in loyalty-related sales over the trailing twelve months.
