Myrias Optics Taps Industry Veterans for New Strategic Advisory Board

To bridge the gap between breakthrough research and high-volume commercial production, Myrias Optics has appointed Barry Silverstein and David Velasquez as the inaugural members of its newly formed Strategic Advisory Board. The duo will guide the company’s transition from a technology developer into a large-scale manufacturing partner.

The Amherst-based firm, which specializes in wafer-level metaoptics and nanoimprint manufacturing, intends to use the board to refine its product roadmaps and customer engagement strategies. CEO John Fijol noted that the move is essential for the company’s evolution, aiming to align its inorganic material platforms with the rigorous demands of the augmented reality, semiconductor, and defense sectors.

Silverstein joins the board with a background in display technology, having served as the CTO of Optics and Display at Meta’s Reality Labs before moving to the University of Rochester in 2026. His experience with high-refractive-index materials and waveguide architectures is expected to help Myrias navigate the specific system-level requirements of next-generation AR devices. Complementing this, Velasquez brings decades of experience from Corning Incorporated, where he managed the Gorilla Glass and Advanced Optics divisions. His expertise centers on scaling capital-intensive technologies and securing co-investment partnerships for manufacturing capacity. Both advisors will focus on transforming the company’s proprietary nanoimprinting process into a durable market position, ensuring that technical innovation translates into profitable, global scale.
