Sunbird Opens iMessage Access to All Android Users

After a waitlist exceeding 181,000 sign-ups, Sunbird Messaging has officially launched on the Google Play Store, offering Android users full integration with iMessage. The app promises to eliminate the "green bubble" stigma by granting Android owners blue-bubble status and full participation in Apple’s ecosystem, all without requiring additional hardware or Mac connectivity.

The app consolidates iMessage, Google Messages (RCS), and standard SMS into a single interface, featuring a new priority inbox that sorts communications into Primary and Secondary tabs. By routing messages through its platform, Sunbird ensures that Android users retain full functionality in group chats—including reactions, replies, and media quality—that typically break when interacting with Apple users. CEO Danny Mizrahi notes that while RCS improved some basics, it failed to bridge the social and functional divide that often leads to exclusion or bullying among younger users.

Following its public release, Sunbird plans to expand its capabilities throughout Q3 2026. The roadmap includes the addition of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to the unified inbox, alongside the launch of "Sunbird Intelligence." This on-device AI suite aims to provide conversation summaries and automated drafting tools without compromising user privacy. Currently priced at $2.99 per month, the service reports a conversion rate significantly higher than industry averages, signaling strong demand for a more seamless cross-platform messaging experience.
