The funding round was led by AlleyCorp, building on a pre-seed investment led by defy.vc. Additional support came from Headline, Henry Ford III, and several individual tech investors. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate software development, grow its engineering team, and deploy robots across a wider range of warehousing and manufacturing facilities.
Unlike traditional automation that relies on rigid, pre-programmed workflows, Avatar’s system utilizes a human-in-the-loop approach. Remote operators manage the robots in real-time, allowing the machines to perform complex tasks like picking, sorting, and kitting immediately upon deployment. As the robots operate, they generate data that trains the company’s internal foundation models, moving the technology toward full autonomy. Founder and CEO Colin Webb, an MIT graduate who previously founded an AI startup, leads a team with backgrounds from Tesla, Apple, and Cruise to bridge the gap between manual labor and fully robotic systems.
