Emobi and OmniTrust Partner to Secure EV Plug & Charge Infrastructure

San Francisco-based Emobi is joining forces with OmniTrust to embed cryptographic security into its JustPlug™ platform. By integrating advanced digital identity verification, the collaboration aims to shield the growing EV charging network from cyber threats while expanding seamless, cardless charging to hardware previously unable to support such solutions.

The partnership addresses a critical vulnerability in the shift toward software-defined vehicles: as cars connect to energy grids, they become potential entry points for cyberattacks. Emobi’s JustPlug™ architecture currently functions across legacy and modern hardware by utilizing ISO 15118 standards, a capability that currently reaches roughly 80% of existing chargers that lack conventional Plug & Charge support. By layering OmniTrust’s cryptographic trust mechanisms over this infrastructure, the companies plan to ensure that every charging session is authenticated via hardware security modules and digital certificates.

This unified layer allows OEMs, fleet operators, and mobility service providers to standardize security protocols without redundant compliance efforts. Emobi CEO Lin Sun Fa noted that security must be foundational rather than an afterthought in the charging ecosystem. With the integration of OmniTrust’s lifecycle management, the platform now provides end-to-end encryption and real-time monitoring. This scalable framework arrives as the industry prepares for more complex vehicle-to-grid energy services, where verifiable trust between the vehicle, the charger, and the utility grid is essential for long-term stability.
