Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy, Setting Record for Acting Gap

Reiner’s win at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys broke a long-standing family record previously held by his father, Carl Reiner. The filmmaker’s victory creates a 48-year gap between his current award and his previous wins in 1974 and 1978 for All in the Family. This span eclipses the 37-year gap Carl Reiner maintained between his own acting accolades in 1958 and 1995. The recognition is the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raúl Juliá won in 1995 for The Burning Season.

In The Bear, Reiner portrayed Albert Schnur, a consultant providing guidance to the character Ebra. Following his passing in December 2025, the series finale paid tribute to the actor by having Ebra repeat the iconic phrase “As you wish”—a direct reference to Reiner’s 1987 directorial work, The Princess Bride. Despite his initial hesitation to join the cast, Reiner accepted the role after encouragement from his longtime friend and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, noting that he enjoyed the simplicity of the work. While his professional legacy reaches this new milestone, the family remains in the public eye due to the ongoing criminal proceedings involving his son, Nick Reiner, who is currently awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges related to the deaths of his parents.
