Tennessee DOT Taps Geotab Data to Solve Freight Bottlenecks

Procured through the Eastern Transportation Coalition, the contract grants state planners access to a suite of analytical tools, including origin-destination matrices, vehicle miles traveled metrics, and stop-time analytics. These data points are intended to fill long-standing gaps in travel demand modeling and provide the precision necessary for modernizing highway networks.

Dan Pallme, director of passenger transportation, rail, and freight at TDOT, noted that the granular data will be applied directly to bottleneck mitigation and corridor flow analysis. The department plans to use the platform to evaluate 15 specific rest areas, analyzing dwell times and capacity stress to determine where upgrades or new construction are most urgent. This partnership deepens an existing relationship between the state and Geotab, which already provides fleet management technology for Tennessee’s operational vehicles.
