The fund, which reached its first close at USD 250 million, pools capital from institutional heavyweights including Aviva Life, Daido Life Insurance Company, Schroders, and British International Investment. By providing senior loans to financial institutions and companies across Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America, the initiative aims to channel resources directly into renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and green infrastructure.
Lori Kerr, CEO of FinDev Canada, noted that the structure provides a necessary pathway for institutional capital to enter emerging markets while meeting strict regulatory requirements. At least 80% of the portfolio is earmarked for mitigation and adaptation activities. This collaboration builds on a 2025 memorandum of understanding between FinDev Canada and British International Investment, signaling a strategic push to align development goals with private-sector investment models.
