Applied Optoelectronics Previews 3.0GHz Network Tech at SCTE TechExpo

The demonstration, branded as Quantum30, features a functioning 3.0GHz amplifier alongside SC-QAMs and OFDM channels. By showcasing this hardware, AOI aims to move beyond theoretical discussions, allowing operators to witness the physical challenges of higher-frequency transmission—such as increased cable attenuation and thermal management—before industry standards are finalized.

To accompany the hardware preview, the company released a white paper titled "Beyond 1.8 GHz: Evaluating Paths to 3.0 GHz HFC Networks." The document outlines a decision framework for infrastructure evolution, emphasizing the need for flexible amplifier architectures and modernized outside plant designs. According to Corey Chapman, Senior Director of Product Management for AOI’s Broadband Access Business Unit, engaging with these engineering hurdles now is essential, as the transition will require significant shifts in power demands and mechanical tolerances. The demo will be hosted at booth H1448 from September 29 through October 2.
