The UHS Gateway Scholars Program focuses on securing talent before graduation, bridging the gap between academic preparation and clinical employment. By providing financial incentives for Registered Nurses, Radiologic Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technologists, and Doctors of Physical Therapy, the initiative aims to stabilize staffing levels across the healthcare system's four hospitals and regional practices.
Support packages vary by specialization, with nurses, lab technologists, and physical therapists eligible for $50,000 over three years, while radiologic technologists may receive up to $35,000. Beyond the direct financial assistance, the Scholars Network will manage additional employee benefits and career mentorship programs. Sam Maron, founder of the Scholars Network, noted that the program is designed to build sustainable career trajectories rather than merely providing temporary relief. For United Health Services, which currently employs over 6,300 individuals and serves a significant portion of New York's Southern Tier, the strategy addresses the persistent national struggle to retain clinical specialists in an increasingly competitive labor market.
