The appointment marks a significant push by the grocery retailer to integrate artificial intelligence into its core business, including manufacturing, customer growth, and colleague empowerment. Ghasempour arrives from Kingfisher, where he served as Chief AI Officer since March 2024, overseeing the implementation of productivity tools that helped the home improvement group increase its profit guidance for the current year.
CEO Rami Baitiéh described the creation of the role as a commitment to adopting technology with focus and precision. Ghasempour, who previously spent two years as Group AI Director at Kingfisher, noted that his priority is to ensure the business utilizes AI responsibly to drive measurable results for both staff and shoppers. This strategic pivot follows a period of aggressive digital adoption across the UK retail sector, where competitors are increasingly leveraging automation to optimize supply chains and personalize the customer experience.
