Mental Health Authority Faces Class Action Settlement Over Data Breach

The litigation, Meyer, et al. v. Jefferson-Blount-St. Clair Mental Health Authority, stems from a breach that compromised private information of patients and residents across the United States. While the mental health authority denies any wrongdoing, the settlement allows the organization to resolve the claims without proceeding to a full trial. Eligible class members include anyone who received a formal notice letter regarding the incident.

Claimants have until December 23, 2026, to submit their forms for cash relief or credit monitoring services through the dedicated portal at www.JBSSettlement.com. Those who choose not to participate must formally exclude themselves by November 23, 2026, to retain their right to pursue independent litigation. Failure to take action by the deadline will result in the forfeiture of benefits and a waiver of the right to sue over the resolved claims. Judge Chuck Price is scheduled to hold a final approval hearing on February 16, 2027, in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Birmingham, to review the terms and attorney fee allocations.
