Ten Years of Secrecy and Seagrass: The Evolution of Formentera’s Festival

The festival, returning to Formentera under the banner of (re)discovering Posidonia, has built its reputation by rejecting mass-market spectacle. Instead, it prioritizes a curated blend of emerging international talent and established acts, set against the backdrop of the island’s rugged landscape. Over nine previous editions, the event has hosted 78 artists across 83 concerts and 17 DJ sets, featuring names like The Vaccines, Jorge Drexler, and Roosevelt.

Beyond the music, the festival functions as a collaborative effort with the local ecosystem. Attendees engage with the island through 30 land and sea routes led by 50 local experts, covering 60 kilometers on foot. This hyper-local approach extends to the gastronomic program, which has tapped into the expertise of 30 chefs and restaurants to highlight regional produce.

Environmental accountability remains the event's most ambitious metric. It stands as the only music festival globally to secure TRUE Zero Waste Platinum certification for three consecutive years. Since 2021, the organizers have maintained a zero-emissions mandate, funneling support into the Save Posidonia Project to protect the vital oceanic seagrass meadows that define the island’s biodiversity. By integrating 140 local businesses and organizations into its operations, the festival proves that cultural growth does not have to come at the expense of its host environment.
