The integration addresses a critical gap in modern finance: the ability to move customer funds across counterparties without abandoning established infrastructure. Swift provides a secure orchestration layer, while Cosmos handles the synchronization between a bank's internal ledger and digital environments like EVM or Hyperledger Besu. This setup ensures that tokenized deposits stay under the control of the issuing bank, even as funds move instantly across borders, weekends included.
Maghnus Mareneck, Co-CEO of Cosmos, noted that the platform is designed to help banks meet growing demand for real-time treasury management and instant cash sweeps. Beyond basic payments, the technology supports programmable money flows, allowing institutions to modernize without replacing their core legacy systems. Currently, 17 financial institutions are piloting these tokenized transactions, building upon Swift’s existing network of 12,500 global participants. While blockchain adds speed and availability, final settlement continues to rely on established, proven mechanisms, ensuring that the transition to 24/7 operations remains compatible with global financial standards.
