InnerSpace Action Appoints Drew Nelson to Lead Geothermal Advocacy Expansion

Since its inception in 2025, InnerSpace Action has successfully navigated diverse political landscapes to establish legal frameworks for geothermal energy. In Colorado, the passage of SB26-142 created a dedicated pathway for utility-scale geothermal procurement, mandating that utilities solicit up to 300 megawatts of capacity. Simultaneously, in Texas, the group collaborated with the Texas Geothermal Energy Alliance to secure geothermal’s status as dispatchable generation under the Texas Energy Fund and streamlined permitting for closed-loop wells.

Nelson, who has directed the group’s strategy since its founding, will now oversee an aggressive push into new territories including Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington. The organization prioritizes states that offer both significant geothermal potential and existing infrastructure from the oil and gas sector, aiming to replicate the bipartisan success achieved in Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania. Board Chairman Jamie Beard noted that Nelson’s leadership is expected to accelerate the group's momentum as they seek to transition geothermal from a niche western energy source into a scalable national utility.
