Moberg Pharma Reports MOB-015 Efficacy Against Resistant Nail Fungus

A new study published in the Journal of Fungi demonstrates that MOB-015 maintains high mycological cure rates for onychomycosis, even among patients exhibiting reduced susceptibility to terbinafine. The findings suggest the treatment remains effective despite growing concerns regarding antifungal resistance in dermatophyte isolates.

Researchers analyzed 506 dermatophyte isolates collected during a North American Phase 3 clinical trial of the topical treatment. While 3.2% of baseline isolates displayed elevated minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of at least 0.5 µg/ml, the drug continued to perform across the spectrum of baseline sensitivity. Among the study participants with evaluable results, 74.3% achieved a mycological cure. Notably, the treatment succeeded in two out of three patients who presented with elevated baseline MIC values.

The research, conducted alongside Professor Mahmoud Ghannoum at Case Western Reserve University, reinforces the clinical profile of the product. Amir Tavakkol, Chief Scientific Officer at Moberg Pharma, noted that the data strengthens the scientific foundation for the treatment as global attention turns toward potential antifungal resistance. MOB-015 is currently approved for use in 14 countries and is marketed as Terclara in Sweden, Norway, and Israel.
