Since the launch of the initiative in August 2024, the utility has replaced over 83,500 power poles with storm-resilient models. Efforts to harden the grid also include clearing 14,000 miles of vegetation and moving 900 miles of power lines underground. These physical upgrades are paired with the deployment of more than 850 automation devices designed to self-heal during disruptions, effectively minimizing the duration of potential outages.
Nathan Brownell, Vice President of Resilience and Capital Delivery, stated that the company remains committed to completing the project to secure the coastal grid. Residents can monitor the ongoing construction through the company’s Community Progress Tracker, which details specific upgrades by neighborhood. These infrastructure investments serve a broader service area spanning 12 counties, marking a shift toward proactive grid management for the Texas-based utility.
