Raj Kapoor Returns to Lead Shipt as CEO

After a brief departure to lead marketplace operations at Target, Raj Kapoor is returning to the delivery platform Shipt to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. Kapoor, who previously managed Shipt’s daily operations as COO, will officially step into the top role on October 18, 2026.

Kapoor takes the helm from Kamau Witherspoon, who is stepping down after a four-year tenure marked by the integration of Shipt into the Target Circle 360 loyalty program and the expansion of the company’s last-mile fulfillment capabilities. Witherspoon plans to depart the organization in late October following a transition period, concluding a 15-year career within the broader Target enterprise.

During his previous tenure at Shipt from 2022 to 2025, Kapoor oversaw the scaling of the company’s fulfillment infrastructure. His recent work as senior vice president of marketplace at Target focused on driving profitable growth and expanding the Target Plus assortment. As CEO, Kapoor will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, balancing his leadership duties with regular travel to the company's Birmingham headquarters and Minneapolis hubs.

Shipt currently reaches 80% of the U.S. population, providing same-day delivery services for over 120 retailers alongside its dedicated Target Last Mile Delivery operations. Sarah Travis, board chair and Target’s chief digital and revenue officer, noted that Kapoor’s deep institutional knowledge positions him to lead the company as digital shopping and fulfillment continue to converge.
