The cereal first hit shelves in 1998, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon as fans purchased over 3.2 million boxes during Flutie’s tenure with the Buffalo Bills. While the original campaign had a modest goal of $10,000, the unexpected success of the brand laid the financial groundwork for the foundation established by Doug and Laurie Flutie. Today, the project is managed in collaboration with Ty Ballou of Ballou Sports & Entertainment to capitalize on lingering nostalgia and modern e-commerce reach.
Unlike the 1998 rollout, where retailers often restricted purchases to two boxes per customer, the current campaign allows for bulk orders, including cases of 12 and merchandise bundles featuring hats, shirts, and cereal bowls via the foundation's website. Distribution is handled by the Boone Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on providing vocational training and employment for individuals with disabilities. Executive Director Nick Savarese noted that the foundation’s growth from a small family initiative to a major philanthropic force remains inextricably linked to the cereal's enduring popularity.
