Kamu Kirk Defends Viral George Floyd Remark After Big Brother Backlash

“I’ve never been one to give into peer pressure or seek approval from others,” said MMA fighter and former Big Brother contestant Kamu Kirk. Weeks after his eviction, Kirk broke his silence on a viral video that surfaced while he was in the house, claiming the footage lacked critical context.

The controversy centers on a year-old clip filmed by Kirk outside his apartment. According to the MMA fighter, he began recording after hearing a disturbance involving a man being arrested by police. Kirk claims the man falsely shouted “shots fired” and “I can’t breathe” during the encounter. In the viral excerpt, Kirk is heard saying, “Bro thinks he’s George Floyd,” a comment that drew widespread condemnation for allegedly mocking the victim of police brutality.

Kirk argues that his laughter was directed at the individual’s behavior rather than the memory of George Floyd. He maintains that he was highlighting the irony of the man’s actions, asserting that he never intended to minimize the tragedy of Floyd’s death. He released additional footage alongside his statement, hoping to clarify the sequence of events.

While Kirk remained silent throughout his time on the show, he decided to speak out after learning that his fellow contestants, specifically LaTrice “Lala” Verett and Taylor Brown, were being harassed by viewers. He noted that these castmates had been receiving aggressive messages and comments linked to the controversy. By addressing the situation, Kirk hopes to redirect the focus onto himself and away from his friends and family, insisting that his self-worth is not tied to online perception.
