A subscribing customer’s simple request to cancel a service contract spirals into an escalating confrontation in Dog Day Evening, the debut feature film from director Tin Shu Mak. The production, backed by AMTD Group, is set to make its global premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 12, 2026.

Following its festival debut, the dark comedy will reach commercial audiences in Hong Kong and Macau on June 18, 2026, with a release across the Chinese Mainland scheduled for June 27. The film serves as a satirical critique of modern customer service, using the backdrop of a paid TV station to expose the bureaucratic hurdles companies deploy to discourage subscription cancellations.

Tin Shu Mak, a two-time Hong Kong Film Award winner for screenwriting, leads a cast featuring Michael Ning, Pui Tung Mak, Rachel Leung, Fish Liew, Nina Paw, and Tse Kwan Ho. The project has already secured a spot in the Asian New Talent competition at the Shanghai festival. Dr. Calvin Choi, founder of the AMTD entities, serves as executive producer for the film, which represents a significant expansion of The Generation Essentials Group’s media and entertainment portfolio.
