Fifty high-capacity charging stations are arriving in Tanzania as part of a joint venture between Autel Energy, the UNDP, and state utility TANESCO. The initiative aims to catalyze electric vehicle adoption nationwide, beginning with the inauguration of a flagship charging hub at the TANESCO regional headquarters in Dodoma.
The rollout focuses on expanding public infrastructure, with all 50 donated AC chargers slated for strategic installation at TANESCO regional offices. By placing these units in key administrative hubs, the project provides a foundational network for EV owners, moving beyond urban centers to create broader accessibility. The Dodoma site serves as the primary demonstration model, showcasing how smart charging technology can lower transportation costs and diminish reliance on fossil fuels. This deployment aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting clean energy, sustainable urban planning, and climate action. Grace Zhou, Director of Public Relations at Autel Energy, described the partnership as a commitment to integrating smart charging ecosystems into the African market. By combining Autel’s technical hardware with the regulatory and logistical reach of TANESCO and the UNDP, the project establishes a scalable blueprint for reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the region.
