Steven R. Smith, who began his career as an intern at AccuWeather in 1997, has been named a national finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year award. The recognition follows his selection as the regional winner for Greater Philadelphia, highlighting his leadership in global weather technology.
An independent panel of judges honored Smith for his purpose-driven leadership and his role in expanding the company's influence across 190 countries. Since taking the helm as CEO in 2023, Smith has overseen a significant scaling of the firm’s digital infrastructure, including an enterprise API platform that now processes over 30 billion requests daily.A Philadelphia native and Penn State graduate, Smith credits his team for the achievement, noting that the mission to save lives and protect property has remained the core of the company’s operations for over six decades. Under his direction, the business has accelerated the integration of AI and advanced data tools to support more than a billion users worldwide. Having secured the regional title at the Union League of Philadelphia on June 11, Smith now advances to the national stage of the competition to be considered among the country’s most impactful business leaders.
