Jeanmarie Giordano named Global Chief Underwriting Officer at AXA XL

Jeanmarie Giordano steps into the role of Global Chief Underwriting Officer at AXA XL, taking the reins as the company shifts its leadership structure. Her predecessor, Libby Benet, moves to lead the insurer's newly formed risk advisory unit, signaling a strategic pivot toward proactive loss prevention for global clients.

Giordano arrives at AXA XL following a tenure at Everest, where she served as North America Chief Underwriting Officer since March 2025. Her background includes a significant 15-year stretch at AIG, during which she managed global portfolios for financial lines and professional liability. Scott Gunter, CEO of AXA XL, highlighted her track record of stabilizing business operations throughout volatile market cycles as a primary driver for her appointment.

In her new capacity, Giordano will oversee the firm's underwriting strategy, focusing on portfolio resilience and technical execution. She will coordinate directly with regional business unit heads to balance disciplined growth with the firm's specialty risk objectives. This leadership change coincides with the launch of AXA XL Risk Advisory, a business division specifically tasked with providing clients with preventative risk management solutions.
