Clarins Launches Longevity Research Center to Decode Skin Aging

Clarins has inaugurated the Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins Longevity Research Center in Paris, marking a strategic pivot toward epigenetics. By bridging three decades of dermatological data with multidisciplinary expertise, the facility aims to shift the focus of skincare from masking surface aging to influencing the biological pathways that govern cellular health.

The new center, operating across the company’s Paris headquarters and Pontoise laboratories, assembles global experts in dermatology, behavioral science, and biomedical engineering. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins, the team will prioritize mapping longevity markers and launching academic partnerships to translate complex data into practical, evidence-based skincare solutions.

Central to this mission is the study of epigenetics—the concept that approximately 85% of gene expression is dictated by lifestyle and environmental factors rather than fixed inheritance. By identifying eight key biomarkers, including mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular senescence, researchers are developing targeted interventions for products such as the Double Serum line and the Precious La Crème collection. The initiative seeks to move beyond traditional anti-aging by preserving the skin’s internal ecosystem through proactive measures like stress management, nutrition, and specialized botanical extracts.
