Cuthbert, known for her roles in 24 and The Girl Next Door, explained on NBC’s Today that balancing the demands of a high-profile acting career with the needs of her young children became increasingly difficult. Following the birth of her second child, she chose to step back from major productions to focus on family life with her husband, former NHL player Dion Phaneuf. With her children now in school full-time, the actress feels a renewed sense of clarity and is ready to re-enter the industry.
Her return to the screen begins with a role in the upcoming Prime Video series Every Year After. This project marks a shift from her last major appearance in the 2022 crime film Bandit and her stint on the Netflix sitcom The Ranch, which concluded in 2020. During her time away, Cuthbert channeled her energy into charitable work, including supporting the Special Olympics and Tim Hortons Camp Day. Reflecting on her early rise to stardom at age 13, she expressed relief that the current generation of young actors faces less intense public scrutiny than she did during the peak of her early career.
