Geely Farizon and WeRide Launch First Right-Hand-Drive Robotaxis

Hong Kong will soon host the world’s first ground-up, right-hand-drive autonomous taxi service, as Geely Farizon, WeRide, and Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings align to capture markets previously ignored by the robotaxi boom. The partnership aims to adapt mass-produced transport technology for the unique traffic flow requirements of global right-hand-drive territories.

The alliance leverages Geely Farizon’s GXR platform, moving beyond mere steering-wheel relocation to a total overhaul of vehicle layout, autonomous software, and human-machine interface design. By building these units specifically for right-hand-drive operating standards, the companies intend to solve a persistent gap in the autonomous vehicle market, where most current models remain restricted to left-hand-drive infrastructure. Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility, which already holds a pilot autonomous license in Hong Kong, will spearhead the operational integration and road validation for the new fleet.

Following the Hong Kong rollout, the group plans to export this model to Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This project builds on the momentum of the existing GXR platform, which achieved fully driverless commercial certification in Beijing and Guangzhou within months of its 2024 launch. By prioritizing original design for regional traffic conditions rather than simple retrofitting, the consortium expects to establish a scalable blueprint for autonomous public transit in the world's most complex urban environments.
