Stem Cell Transplant Market Poised for 12.4% Annual Growth Through 2036

With over 55,000 hematopoietic stem cell transplantation procedures recorded in 2025 across seven major global markets, the sector is entering a period of rapid expansion. A new analysis projects the market will grow at a compound annual rate of 12.4% as emerging gene and cellular therapies address critical clinical gaps.

The United States currently leads the landscape, accounting for 61% of the global market share valued at approximately $910 million in 2025. This growth is fueled by an increasing prevalence of hematologic malignancies such as leukemia and multiple myeloma, alongside broader clinical eligibility for transplant procedures. Innovations in graft engineering and conditioning regimens are further stabilizing the patient pipeline, allowing for more diverse donor sourcing including haploidentical and cord blood transplants.

Despite these clinical advancements, significant hurdles remain, particularly regarding post-transplant complications like graft-versus-host disease and high rates of disease relapse. To address these, developers are pivoting toward next-generation interventions. Key candidates include Orchard Therapeutics’ OTL-203, which targets mucopolysaccharidosis type I, and Orca Bio’s Orca-T, an allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy currently under regulatory review. Actinium Pharmaceuticals is also advancing Iomab-B, a radiotherapeutic agent designed to improve access to bone marrow transplantation for older patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Integration with emerging immune therapies, including CAR T cells, is expected to create new treatment paradigms that prioritize long-term remission. As these investigational drugs move through clinical milestones, they are set to shift the standard of care, transforming a market traditionally reliant on conventional chemotherapy and supportive pharmacological interventions into one defined by precision cellular medicine.
