Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Earns Top Civic Honors

For the seventh consecutive year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has secured a place on The Civic 50, a national ranking of the most community-minded corporations. The Boston-based insurer further distinguished itself by claiming the Healthcare Sector Leader title for the third year running, according to nonprofit Points of Light.

The organization’s social impact strategy resulted in an $11.8 million investment in 2025, covering financial grants, volunteer efforts, and in-kind contributions to various not-for-profits. Employee engagement remains a primary driver of this recognition: 83% of the company's workforce participated in volunteer programs last year, a rate four times the national average. Staff members collectively dedicated over 20,600 hours to local community initiatives.

Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs, credited these results to the firm's ongoing collaboration with regional partners to foster inclusive health outcomes. Points of Light CEO Jennifer Sirangelo noted that the award reflects the company's ability to embed social purpose directly into its operational culture, effectively using its business model as a catalyst for local improvement.
