Willie Colon Raises Millions for Lupus Research in Annual Charity Golf

More than 300 golfers gathered at a Summit, New Jersey course to support the Lupus Research Alliance, marking the 12th year of an event spearheaded by Super Bowl champion Willie Colon. The fundraiser continues a long-standing personal mission for the former lineman, dedicated to his late mother, Jean Davis.

Since its inception, the outing has generated over $3.28 million to combat a chronic autoimmune disease that disproportionately affects women and minority communities. Colon, who serves on the board of the Lupus Research Alliance, recounted watching his mother struggle with the condition during an era when specific treatments for the disease were nonexistent.

Professional athletes and media figures joined the effort to accelerate diagnostic and therapeutic breakthroughs. Participants included players from the New York Giants, Jets, and Patriots, alongside representatives from ESPN and various corporate sponsors. Albert T. Roy, CEO of the organization, noted that the event remains a vital pillar in their push for curative treatments. With administrative costs covered by the board, every dollar raised at the tournament is directed entirely toward research initiatives aimed at finding a cure for the millions living with the condition.
