Valtir, a longtime manufacturer of highway safety hardware based in Addison, Texas, will serve as the exclusive North American provider for the FusionBLADE system on all truck-mounted attenuator (TMA) applications. These attenuators have traditionally served as a final line of defense, designed to absorb energy during a crash. The new partnership upgrades that passive role by mounting AI-enabled HD video and HD3D radar directly onto the equipment.
The system utilizes edge computing to process data locally on the vehicle, generating actionable alerts in under 100 milliseconds. This allows crews to monitor traffic trajectory, speed, and lane position in real time. Beyond immediate collision warnings, the platform logs near-miss events and provides safety managers with automated analytics, replacing the need for multiple disparate devices like DVRs and separate speed-detection systems.
"FusionBLADE transforms any TMA platform from a last line of defense into an active early warning system," said Cecil Brown, Vice President of EAS & Steel Barrier Sales at Valtir. Chris McGarty, CEO of Charleston-based Omnisight, noted that the collaboration targets the industry’s ongoing struggle with work zone fatalities by moving beyond traditional physical barriers toward real-time, data-driven awareness.
