H&M Group leadership shakeup as CDIO Ellen Svanström departs

After a decade of shaping the retail giant’s digital strategy, Chief Digital Information Officer Ellen Svanström is stepping down from H&M Group. Her exit follows the departure of another senior executive, Gustav Zetterström, marking a significant transition within the company’s core technology and innovation leadership teams.

Svanström announced her resignation via LinkedIn, reflecting on a ten-year tenure that spanned from initial group strategy and business development to leading the global technology organization. She specifically highlighted the last three and a half years spent overseeing the company's business tech division, though she stopped short of disclosing her immediate future plans.

Her departure coincides with the exit of Gustav Zetterström, who previously served as SVP and Global Head of Emerging Technology & Innovation at H&M. Zetterström has transitioned to SAP, where he now leads the company’s global consumer industries division. In his new capacity, he intends to focus on the integration of artificial intelligence across retail, agribusiness, and health sciences sectors. During his time at the fashion retailer, Zetterström was instrumental in driving end-to-end digital transformation, an experience he claims has prepared him to help SAP clients navigate the complexities of AI-powered scaling.
