The transition to LED technology solved a recurring maintenance headache for school administrators. Previously, the field relied on metal halide lamps that required frequent replacement, necessitating heavy equipment that often damaged the turf. By reusing existing poles and upgrading the fixtures, the school eliminated this cycle of disruption. According to owner Travis Penley, the new installation is designed to last for years while providing energy savings ranging from 50% to 70% compared to the previous system.
Beyond the operational efficiency, the system has become a staple of school spirit. Head baseball coach Matt Spivey noted that the ability to program the lights in school colors—red, blue, and green—has transformed the stadium environment. During wins, the facility now hosts light shows that engage students and players alike. Torrence Sports Lighting, which has completed over 2,000 projects across the Southeast since 2004, secured the contract by guaranteeing completion before the start of the baseball season, a promise Spivey confirmed they met.
