Lionel Richie Halts Tour Opener Amid Health Scare

Fans at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul expected a night of classic hits, but Lionel Richie’s tour kickoff ended abruptly on Wednesday night. The 77-year-old music icon cut his performance short after visibly struggling with dizziness, leaving thousands of concertgoers concerned for his well-being as the show concluded prematurely.

The trouble began during the performance of “Dancing on the Ceiling,” when the legendary singer was seen repeatedly stopping to sit on the stage. Witnesses noted that Richie acknowledged feeling dizzy to the crowd, even joking with fans that they should always sit down if they feel unwell. Despite the clear physical distress, he managed to move to the piano for a final rendition of “Three Times a Lady” before announcing an unscheduled intermission.

After 40 minutes of silence, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to the stage to inform the disappointed audience that the singer could not continue. While the team has yet to release a formal diagnosis or update regarding the remainder of the tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, social media footage shows Richie attempting to power through the set despite clear signs of fatigue. Attendees described a somber atmosphere as the venue cleared, with many expressing concern that the veteran performer had pushed himself too hard before prioritizing his health.
