Alfa Laval Secures Record 1.1 BSEK Deal for Brazilian Biorefinery

Alfa Laval has inked a 1.1 billion SEK contract to supply pre-treatment technology for Acelen’s upcoming biorefinery in Brazil. This agreement, the largest in the Swedish engineering firm's history, marks a pivot toward large-scale renewable energy infrastructure as the facility prepares for a 2029 production launch.

The project will see Alfa Laval provide a comprehensive suite of HVO pre-treatment systems, including heat exchangers and separation units. These components are essential for the facility's target output of 17,230 barrels of sustainable aviation fuel daily. The biorefinery plans to process a diverse range of feedstocks, from soybean oil and used cooking oil to the native Brazilian crop macaúba.

Tom Erixon, President and CEO of Alfa Laval, described the deal as a testament to the rising demand for efficient biofuel technology in hard-to-abate sectors like aviation. The partnership leverages Brazil's long-standing energy policies, which have cultivated a robust environment for sustainable innovation. Once operational, the Acelen facility—part of a larger 30 BSEK investment by Mubadala Capital—is expected to significantly bolster regional energy security and diversify global sustainable fuel supplies.
