Archdiocese of San Francisco Settles Abuse Claims for $395 Million

Slater Slater Schulman LLP, which served on the official creditors' committee, represented over 50 of the claimants during the negotiations. The settlement provides a substantial trust for survivors and allows them to seek further recovery from insurance providers. The underlying lawsuits detailed a long-standing pattern of abuse where clergy members exploited their positions of authority to target parishioners, students, and altar servers.

Michael Carney, managing partner of the firm's California office, noted that while financial compensation cannot reverse the lifelong damage inflicted on victims, the resolution serves as a necessary mechanism for institutional accountability. Partner Simona Danesh added that the firm remains committed to pursuing justice for survivors of sexual abuse across California who have been failed by the institutions they were raised to trust.
