Burke brings a diverse background to the role, having held leadership positions within the retailer’s commercial, liquor, and digital divisions. His experience extends to the UK market, where he previously worked for Tesco and Waitrose before joining the Australian retail giant. The appointment marks a strategic move as the company continues to refine its logistics infrastructure.
This leadership shift follows a period of executive turnover within the company’s technology department. Earlier this year, Chief Technology Officer Mike Sackman departed the retailer after a one-year tenure, citing a return to the UK. During his time in the role, Sackman oversaw the integration of AI tools such as ChatGPT Enterprise and Copilot, alongside significant upgrades to the company's cyber security framework. Sackman had originally succeeded John Cox, who led the department through a multi-year modernization of the company’s cloud-native data platforms and retail technology stack.
