The atmosphere near the arena is fractured. While some entrepreneurs are attempting to capitalize on the spectacle by leaning into the wedding theme, others are reeling from the logistical fallout. A restaurant owner on West 31st Street expressed open hostility toward the event, noting that the street closures coincide with prime traffic windows for World Cup matches and Independence Day celebrations. With no formal compensation offered by the couple’s camp, these businesses are left to absorb the financial hit alone.
Security remains the primary driver of the disruption. NYPD teams, including canine units and heavy weapons specialists, have established a perimeter around the venue. A large tent is being erected near Seventh Avenue to shield arriving guests from public view, effectively blocking off local access. Inside the arena, the lockdown is even more severe: corporate employees have been barred from the building entirely, and event staff are operating under strict protocols that include mandatory phone bans and identification wristbands.
Despite the local outcry, the guest list continues to grow, with between 500 and 999 attendees expected. The event, which carries a strict black-tie dress code, will enforce a total media blackout, with guests required to surrender their phones upon arrival. High-profile figures, including Andy Reid, Ed Sheeran, and Stevie Nicks, are reportedly among the invited, while local business owners continue to search for a point of contact to address their mounting grievances.
