Why Agile Transformations Stall at Corporate Scale

Why Agile Transformations Stall at Corporate Scale

Many organizations adopt iterative processes to accelerate delivery, yet often find themselves stuck in a cycle of performative workflows rather than true flexibility. According to the Info-Tech Research Group, the failure to realize intended benefits stems from a fundamental disconnect: teams are doing Agile, but failing to be Agile.

The core issue lies in a lack of consistent understanding regarding the underlying principles of the methodology. When employees operate with conflicting knowledge or inconsistent practices across departments, the transformation loses its efficacy. Hans Eckman, a research fellow at the firm, notes that success depends on every individual understanding their specific role within the transformation, rather than merely following a set of rituals.

To move beyond these hurdles, Info-Tech’s new blueprint suggests a targeted approach. Instead of applying a universal solution, IT leaders should first identify their most acute pain points through diagnostic surveys. Once a baseline of Agile fundamentals is established, organizations can deploy specific modules to address granular issues like backlog management, product roadmapping, or collaboration with non-Agile teams. By prioritizing these specific friction points, leaders can transition from superficial implementation to a functional, high-velocity environment.
