However, the announcement prompted a swift backlash from the professional press. Journalists from the Associated Press and Reuters have since published encrypted contact information, signaling their intent to continue aggressive, independent oversight of the Department of War from outside the building’s walls. Meanwhile, defense trade publications remain steadfast in their refusal to sign the agreement, noting that their focus on military budgets and technology is fundamentally incompatible with the administration’s new restrictions.
